The United Kingdom ruled on Tuesday in WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's favor, allowing him to appeal extradition to the United States.
The High Court of Justice decided the US must provide "fresh assurances" that it is necessary to extradite Assange. The next hearing on the matter will be held in May.
Washington requested Assange's extradition so that it could prosecute him over conspiracy to commit computer intrusion and violating the Espionage Act of 1917 after WikiLeaks published information given to it by former US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning on that country's alleged numerous mishandlings in diplomacy, as well as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
