UK economy surprises, grows 0.3% in January

The British economy rose by higher than expected 0.3% in January after seeing a 0.5% decline the month prior, according to a report published by the Office for National Statistics on Friday. In the three months to January, the United Kingdom's GDP stood flat.

January's economic expansion was led by the services sector, which grew by 0.5% pushed by the activity growth in education, transport and storage, human health activities, and arts, entertainment and recreation activities.

On the other hand, production output and construction sector turned to declines by falling 0.3% and 1.7%, respectively.

US existing home sales down 5.9% in March
Existing home sales in the United States decreased by 5.9% in March compared to the previous month and stood at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.02 million, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) shared in a report on Thursday. US durable goods orders jump 9.2% in March
Durable goods orders in the United States surged by 9.2% in March on a monthly basis to $315.7 billion, according to a report by the Census Bureau on Thursday. Excluding transportation, new orders were virtually unchanged. Excluding defense, new orders added 10.4%.The greatest rise was seen in transportation equipment, whose orders soared by 27% compared to February and amounted to $124.6 billion in March.
