The United Kingdom officially informed the European Union (EU) of its reluctance to extend the Brexit transition period, United Kingdom Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove (pictured) said on Friday.
In the second joint committee agreed under the Withdrawal Agreement with European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic, he claimed that "the moment for an extension has now passed." Meanwhile, Sefcovic stressed that the EU "remains open to such an extension" of the transition period that is set to expire on December 31.
Previously, EU top Brexit negotiator Michael Barnier noted the UK isn't ready to compromise on the extension, despite the bloc's willingness to negotiate on the stretching of the withdrawal period.
