US markets open lower after Moody's downgrades banks

Wall Street opened in the negative territory on Tuesday after Moody's Investors Service lowered the credit rating of 10 small and mid-sized banks in the United States and said it will review six bigger lenders over potential downgrades, sparking renewed fears about the health of the country's commercial banking sector.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index declined 0.59% or 211 points in the first minute of trading. Intel dragged the index down, falling 2.16% at 9:46 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 decreased by 0.80% at 9:30 am ET with Datadog down 19.55% a minute later. The S&P 500 was 0.59% lower to begin the trading session. International Flavors & Fragrances lost 19.04% at 9:31 am ET.

The euro was down 0.50% compared to the dollar at 9:29 am ET, changing hands for 1.09475.
