The annual inflation in the United Kingdom clocked in at 3.2% in March, the Office for National Statistics announced in its report on Wednesday. The figure came in a bit higher than the 3.1% expected by analysts. Month on month, consumer prices remained unchanged at 0.6%.
The Consumer Price Index, which includes owner-occupant housing costs (CPIH), increased by 3.8% in the 12 months to March 2024 and was unchanged from February. The report added that food was the main downward contributor to the annual rate changes in both the CPIH and CPI, while the biggest upward contribution, partially offset, was from motor fuels, whose prices went up this year but down a year ago.
Core CPIH rose by 4.7% over the year, a slight decrease from 4.8% in February. Likewise, core CPI increased by 4.2%, down from 4.5%.
