The Consumer Price Index in the United Kingdom rose by 7.9% on a yearly basis in June, according to a report by the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday. In May, inflation stood at 8.7%.
On a monthly basis, the CPI increased by 0.1%. Meanwhile, annual core inflation was recorded at 6.9%, down from 7.1% in May. The report noted that falling prices for motor fuel led to the largest downward contribution to the monthly change of the CPI, while food prices continued rising but by less than in June 2022, also leading to an easing in the rates.
