EU adopts commercial drone development plan

The European Commission adopted on Tuesday a strategy to develop the commercial drone market, including "large-scale commercial drone operations." The plan aims to make drones "an accepted part of the life of EU citizens" by 2030, as they will be used for emergency services, inspections and surveillance using drones to gather data, as well as for the delivery of goods.

The bloc also envisages air taxis, "providing regular transport services for passengers, initially with a pilot on board, but with the ultimate aim of fully automating operations." The EU aims to adopt common rules for drone training requirements, create an online platform to support local stakeholders and industry, as well as develop a roadmap identifying development priorities and reducing strategic dependencies.
