UK reportedly criticizes US subsidies law

United Kingdom International Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch (pictured) told United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai that the Inflation Reduction Act passed by US Congress is protectionist, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, citing a letter from Badenoch to Tai it has had access to.

The UK government official warned that the US piece of legislation would "impact global supply chains in batteries, electric vehicles and wider renewables," especially those located in Britain. London wants to "be part of any flexibilities in the implementation of the IRA," Badenoch allegedly wrote, implying that the UK is open to a special deal with the US.

A number of countries, notably several US allies, have come forward with complaints that the law is discriminatory against non-US manufacturers.
