British Security Minister Dan Jarvis told the House of Commons on Tuesday that the government will put Russia on the "enhanced tier" of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme, reserved for foreign powers or entities whose activities threaten the safety and interests of the United Kingdom. He said Iran will also be designated under the scheme.
The UK intends to list the Russian government, armed forces, intelligence services and police forces, parliaments and their judiciaries, as well as some political parties. According to Jarvis, the scheme is an "important tool for the detection and disruption of harmful activity" as it will require persons and entities involved in activities with the designated Russian entities to register with the British government.
