The United Kingdom's trade deficit in goods and services widened significantly by £4.9 billion in three months to April of the current year to £11.5 billion, according to the data released by the Office for National Statistics on Thursday.

The figure was affected by a rise in imports whereas exports fell £2.7 billion in April this year. At the same time, the goods trade deficit expanded by 4.4 billion to £60.0 billion.

UK's exports to the United States declined by £2.0 billion in April, as a consequence of tariffs, although the two countries previously reached a trade deal, lowering US duties on most goods from the UK to 10%.
