The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom went up to 4.3% in the three months to October, data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed on Tuesday. The reading came in line with analysts' estimates and was up from the previous quarter.
The employment rate was estimated at 74.9%, slightly higher than the previous three-month period. Economic inactivity fell to 21.7%, driven by fewer individuals citing long-term sickness or family responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the number of full-time employees and self-employed workers grew, offsetting declines in part-time employment. Total weekly hours worked rose to 1.08 billion.
