The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom remained unchanged at 4.4% in the three months ending January, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed in its report on Thursday. The reading came in above the estimates from a year ago.
The employment rate was estimated at 75%, higher than the previous quarter and above the estimates from the previous year. Economic inactivity dropped to 21.5%.
The estimated number of vacancies in November 2024 to January 2025 reached 816,000, almost unchanged from the previous quarter, with early estimates pointing towards a slight increase of 1,000. Excluding bonuses, the annual growth in average earnings stood at 5.9% in the three months to January.
