The United Kingdom's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) issued on Friday a preliminary notice against Snapchat, stating that the application of instant messaging may have failed to "properly assess the privacy risks posed by its generative AI chatbot 'My AI'" for all British users, "including children aged 13 to 17."
In the official document, the watchdog asked Snapchat to refrain from using "My AI" to process data collected from UK users until the company carries out a proper analysis of how the information is been treated. Also, it was said that the findings in the notice are provisional.
"We have been clear that organizations must consider the risks associated with AI, alongside the benefits. Today's preliminary enforcement notice shows we will take action in order to protect UK consumers' privacy rights," Information Commissioner John Edwards noted.
