Members of the United Nations Security Council condemned the attacks carried out by the Houthis in the Red Sea and called for the Yemeni group to abide by international law. In recent months, the Houthis intensified attacks on international ships, claiming they are targeting vessels heading to Israel.
The United States Ambassador to the United Nations for Management and Reform Chris Lu accused Iran of enabling the attacks by financing the group. "The US does not seek confrontation with Iran. Iran has a choice here. It can continue its current course or it can withhold its support without which the Houthis would struggle to effectively track and strike commercial vessels navigating shipping lanes through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden," he said.
