The United States and the European Union reached on Friday an agreement in principle on creating a framework on transatlantic data flows. The previous deal between the US and the EU was challenged by EU courts over concerns about the safety of European data in the US.
"We’ve agreed to unprecedented protections for data privacy and security for our citizens. This new agreement will enhance the Privacy Shield Framework; promote growth and innovation in Europe and the United States; and help companies, both small and large, compete in the digital economy," US President Joe Biden said. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen added it will "enable predictable and trustworthy data flows between the EU and US, safeguarding privacy and civil liberties."
