US FTC to examine tech firms' privacy practices

United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) revealed on Monday a new comprehensive investigation into privacy and data collection practices of several tech companies.

The firms and apps that are to be investigated are Amazon.com Inc., Google LLC's YouTube, Facebook Inc. and its subsidiary WhatsApp, Twitter Inc., ByteDance Ltd. and its TikTok app, Discord Inc., Reddit Inc. and Snap Inc.

The FTC is seeking data and documents from the companies to gain insight into how they gather and handle user information, especially that of teens and children, Axios reported.

Reddit Inc. revealed on Thursday that its revenue for the third quarter of fiscal 2025 landed at $585 million, skyrocketing 68% compared to the corresponding quarter in 2024 and surpassing analysts' estimates.
