The United States, Japan and South Korea held trilateral naval drills on Thursday and Friday, with a US aircraft destroyer taking part in the exercise, Yonhap reported, citing the South Korean Navy.
The drill took place in international waters south of Jeju Island, which is located about 82.8 kilometers south of the Korean Peninsula. The three countries deployed six warships in total, with the US Navy sending its nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt along with three Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers.
"The exercise was focused on bolstering the three nations' joint response capabilities amid North Korea's rising nuclear and missiles," the South Korean Navy stated.
