White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday avoided directly stating how President Donald Trump would personally hold Iran accountable for any future Houthi attacks. When asked, she instead referred to a statement he issued earlier in the day.
Leavitt emphasized that the administration's stance is firm, pointing to recent military actions against the Houthis as proof. "There's a new sheriff in town," she said, adding, "I think the Houthis learned that the hard way this past weekend." She stressed that the president will not tolerate attacks on commercial vessels or US naval ships.
Her remarks come after Trump ordered "powerful" and "decisive" strikes against the Houthis in Yemen, calling them a terrorist threat to global shipping.
