United States National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby stated on Monday that his government is not ready to support a ceasefire in Gaza.
"We do not believe that a ceasefire is the right answer right now. We believe that a ceasefire right now benefits Hamas and Hamas is the only one that would gain from that right now," Kirby replied after being questioned for the reasons the US did not vote in favor of a humanitarian ceasefire in the latest United Nations General Assembly where 120 countries did it.
He emphasized that the US position on the Israel-Hamas war "is about making sure Israel has what it needs to continue to defend itself and to go after these Hamas leaders" while at the same time collaborating to make sure "humanitarian assistance can get into the hundreds of thousands of people that need it."
