The United States Navy supposedly warned its members against using artificial intelligence (AI) from China's DeepSeek "in any capacity," CNBC reported on Tuesday, citing an email.

The email, which was issued to "shipmates" on Friday, contained a warning from the Navy instructing members not to use DeepSeek's AI due to "potential security and ethical concerns associated with the model’s origin and usage." The news agency said the authenticity of the email was confirmed by a US Navy spokesperson, who said it was in reference to the Department of the Navy's Chief Information Officer’s generative AI policy.

Yesterday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said DeepSeek's R1 was an "impressive model," while also acknowledging the Chinese startup as a competitor. United States President Donald Trump noted that DeepSeek's advancements should serve as a wake-up call to the US.
