United States Commander Jeremiah Daley praised the deployment of two American prototype unmanned vessels that made their first port call at Yokosuka base in Kanagawa Prefecture, home to the US Seventh Fleet, The Wall Street Journal wrote on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters onboard Daley explained that autonomous drone ships have the potential to serve as replacements for larger vessels within task forces in locating and pursuing enemy targets. "For example, one destroyer and two USVs could replace three destroyers. It's a force multiplier," The WSJ cited the commander as saying.
According to the local media, the unmanned vessels arrived in Japan on September 18 but were only presented to the media today.
