The United States and South Korea concluded the second round of talks on sharing the funding to keep the former's troops stationed in the peninsula amid the threat North Korea poses, the latter's Foreign Ministry told Yonhap on Thursday.
The discussion on financing the US Forces Korea (USFK) from 2026 onward was chaired by US State Department Bureau of Political-Military Affairs Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Security Agreements and Foreign Policy Advisors (POLADs) Linda Specht and her South Korean counterpart Lee Tae-woo. The USFK currently numbers 28,500 people.
"We exchanged opinions for a mutual review on the main positions and areas of interest in relation to defense cost sharing, which were presented by both sides in the first round of talks in Honolulu in April," the ministry's representatives said, adding the talks will continue in Washington DC in June.
