The United States Senate approved the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill on Thursday, ahead of a key Friday deadline, CNN reported.
The bill will renew the authority of the FAA for the next five years if the House of Representatives follows suit and greenlights it. Additionally, the legislation aims to improve aviation safety, enhance protections for passengers and airline workers and invest in airport and air travel infrastructure across the country, with more than $105 billion ready to be authorized for the funding of the agency, as well as $738 million for the National Transportation Safety Board.
The bill also seeks to address the lack of air traffic controllers in the country by expanding hiring.
