The United States Senate introduced a bipartisan 79-page bill aimed at funding the government until November 17, in an effort to avert an impending government shutdown next week.
The stopgap legislation includes $4.5 billion in funds for the Defense Department to address the situation in Ukraine until September next year, along with an additional $1.65 billion in funding for further assistance to Ukraine until September 30, 2025.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer previously acknowledged that the agreement may not satisfy all parties but that it serves way to buy more time for Congress to negotiate a continuing resolution that will keep the government funded for longer.
