United States President Joe Biden pledged to push for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel as Muslims around the world begin observing the fasting month of Ramadan.
"The United States will continue working non-stop to establish an immediate and sustained ceasefire for at least six weeks as part of a deal that releases hostages," Biden stated in his Ramadan message, adding that a two-state solution is the only path towards "equal measures of freedom, dignity, security, and prosperity," for both the Palestinians and the Israelis. He also emphasized that the US will continue to work with Israel to increase the amount of humanitarian aid delivered to the Gaza Strip by land.
Biden went on to announce the development of the "first-ever National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia and Related Forms of Bias and Discrimination, "to counter "an appalling resurgence of hate and violence toward Muslim Americans."
