United States intelligence sources said they detected "preparations" indicating that Iran could initiate an attack against Israel, CNN reported on Tuesday.

Anonymous sources did not specify the nature of the preparations allegedly conducted by Iran but they stated the US expects an attack to happen "in the coming days." Iran has repeatedly vowed retaliation against Israel for the assassination of Hamas' political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran but revealed no information as to the nature and timing of its response.

On Monday, the media reported blasts sounded in Isfahan, central Iran, but the local authorities later said they were due to exercises being conducted in the area.
