US allegedly offers proposal for peace in Ukraine

UNSPLASH / CHRIS ROBERT

The United States reportedly offered its allies a peace proposal that puts forward terms for freezing the conflict in Ukraine and relieving the sanctions on Russia in case of a lasting ceasefire.

Washington shared an outline of the proposal during meetings in Paris on Thursday, European officials familiar with the matter told Bloomberg on Friday. According to the US plan, the fighting would be halted, leaving the Ukrainian regions currently occupied by Moscow under Russia's authority. Ukraine's ambitions to join NATO would reportedly also be abandoned.

Earlier today, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that his country may "move on" from its peace efforts in Ukraine if the conflict can not be resolved soon, while US Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism that the war can be brought to a close.
