US approves new $400 million aid pack for Ukraine

The United States Defense Department approved late Friday it is providing additional security assistance to Ukraine to meet its security needs amidst its conflict with Russia.

"This $400 million package contains urgently needed capabilities including: additional air defense munitions for Patriot and National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems" HIMARS systems and ammunition, 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds, Bradleys and M113 APCs, among others.

In addition, US Secretary of State Blinken has invoked the emergency clause of the AECA to authorize an immediate Foreign Military Sale of 3 M142 HIMARS to Ukraine, financed by Germany, at an estimated cost of $30 million.
