The United States Defense Department said on Wednesday that Washington approved a potential sale of AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and related equipment to Germany for about $2.9 billion.
The Pentagon stated the deal would include up to 969 AMRAAM, up to 12 AMRAAM C8 Guidance Sections, AIM-120 Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM), as well as other equipment, spare parts and technical and logistics support services.
"This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) ally that is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe," the Pentagon stated, noting the principal contractor will be Raytheon Missiles and Defense.
