US closes higher, Dow surges over 250 points

EPA-EFE/JUSTIN LANE

Major stock exchanges on Wall Street rose at the close on Tuesday, as the Dow Jones jumped over 250 points. In addition, earlier in the day, the Nasdaq 500 hit a new all-time high, and the S&P 500 reached its highest value since January 2022. The trader optimism was seemingly rooted in hopes that the Federal Reserve will loosen its monetary policy next year.

At the closing bell, the Dow Jones soared 0.68% or 251 points, as Walgreens Boots Alliance jumped 4.18%. Simultaneously, the S&P 500 added 0.59%, as Enphase Energy surged 9.09%. Concurrently, the Nasdaq 100 increased 0.49%, with Illumina shooting up 8.12%.

The euro was up 0.54% against the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, going for 1.09795.
