Major US stock markets closed higher on Monday in anticipation of new funding bill negotiations scheduled for tomorrow, with investors appearing optimistic that a government shutdown will be averted. The GDP report will also be published this week, as well as earning data for some of the biggest companies, among which are Nike, Costco, and BlackBerry.
The Dow Jones gained 0.13% at the close with Dow Inc up 1.67%. The Nasdaq 100 was up 0.46%, as GE HealthCare Technologies rose 3.34%. The S&P 500 increased 0.40%. Sealed Air Corp jumped 3.57%.
The euro was down by 0.52% against the dollar at 3:58 pm ET, selling for $1.05925.
