US markets closed lower on Tuesday as escalating conflict between Iran and Israel and disappointing retail data unnerved investors.
Market sentiment soured after President Donald Trump issued threats to Iran's Supreme Leader and called for "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER" on social media. Trump also left the G7 summit early and met with military advisers as the Pentagon repositioned forces.
At the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.70%, led by a 3.30% drop in Merck & Co. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 slid 1%, pressured by a 4.74% plunge in Adobe shares. The S&P 500 lost 0.84%, with Enphase Energy plummeting 23.88%.
The euro plummeted 0.68% against the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, changing hands for 1.14841.
