US closes mixed as earnings season heats up

Major stock indexes in the United States traded mixed at the closing bell on Thursday as investors assessed the latest earnings reports by UnitedHealth Group, the American Express Company and Blackstone, while Netflix is set to release its financial results after the markets close. Additionally, President Donald Trump said he expects trade deals with China and the European Union to be reached. Markets will be closed tomorrow due to Good Friday.

The Dow Jones tumbled 1.33% or 527 points at close as UnitedHealth sank 22.38%. On the other hand, the S&P 500 added 0.13% with Eli Lilly surging 14.30%. The Nasdaq 100 traded flat.

The euro traded 0.24% lower against the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, changing hands at $1.13716.
