US closes mostly higher ahead of Fed rate decision

Major United States stock markets closed mostly higher on Monday, as investors focused their attention on the next Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision, scheduled for release on September 20. Earlier in the day, it was revealed that the US builder confidence for newly-built single-family homes declined in September. In the business area, Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk stated that The Wall Street Journal's report claiming that his company was in negotiations with Saudi Arabia about opening a gigafactory was "another utterly false article."

The Dow Jones was flat at 4:00 pm ET. The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.15%, with Sirius XM Holdings leading the gains, adding 2.76%. The S&P 500 increased 0.07%, as Tyler Technologies Inc. climbed by 3.94%.

The euro was up by 0.24% against the dollar at 3:58 pm ET, selling for $1.06861.
