United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed in a statement posted on the Pentagon's website that Washington is sending "the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group (CSG)" to the Eastern Mediterranean.

The move is being made "as part of our effort to deter hostile actions against Israel or any efforts toward widening this war following Hamas's attack on Israel," Austin shared.

The US official went on to say that this action should also be seen as an attestment of the country's "ironclad commitment to Israel’s security."
