United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken revealed on Thursday that the government is exploring the possibility of seizing assets of the Bank of Russia.

Speaking before the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, the US diplomat noted that the Biden administration asked its legal experts to determine what authority would be needed so Washington could confiscate assets of not only Russian and Russia-linked businesspeople but also assets belonging to the eastern European country's central bank.

Earlier in the day, the White House announced a new set of measures targeting Russian "oligarchs."
