New orders for manufactured durable goods in the United States rose 1.7% in May compared to the month before, bringing the total figure to $288.2 billion, according to a report by the US Census Bureau released on Tuesday.
Excluding transportation, new orders rose 0.6% month on month, while excluding defense, they climbed 3%. Transportation equipment orders jumped 3.9% to stand at $102.6 billion.
Meanwhile, shipments of manufactured durable goods climbed by 1.7% to $282.7 billion in May and unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods increased 0.8% to $1,302 billion.
