US envoy: Orban 'fantasy foreign policy' helps Putin

US ambassador to Hungary, David Pressman, has openly criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his "fantasy foreign policy," serving the interests of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a recent Financial Times interview, Pressman accused Orban of adopting policies based on "imagined invaders" and "fantasized Hungarophobia," serving both domestic political agendas and inadvertently benefiting the Kremlin. "These policy choices, without question, are helpful to Putin and harmful to careful efforts to keep the alliance and our partners together in standing up in the face of his aggression," Pressman added.

Orban's controversial stances have in the past included blocking further EU aid to Ukraine and delaying the ratification of Sweden's NATO membership. These actions have led to Hungary's further isolation from NATO and the EU.
