Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella, a US Navy installation located at an Italian Air Force base in Sicily, remains under lockdown as of Wednesday due to an "ongoing situation" at the NAS 2 entry control point.

A statement from the US Navy confirmed that "a shelter-in-place order is in effect" and directed all personnel to follow Naval Security Forces’ instructions and monitor updates. Traffic at the NAS 2 entry points is secured, with inbound and outbound routes redirected to the East ITAF Gate.

Reports say around 4,000 soldiers and military personnel are there. Personnel are also advised to avoid traveling on the highway SP105 between the Marinai Housing Complex and NAS 2.
