US government enters partial shutdown

UNSPLASH/ALEJANDRO BARBA

The United States federal government fell into a partial shutdown after the House of Representatives approved the $1.2 trillion spending bill, but Congress failed to pass it in time to keep a number of departments and agencies operating.

According to CNBC, the shutdown is expected to be short and have little or no impact as Senate leaders announced they had agreed to vote on a funding package early Saturday morning.

The document dictates funding for the departments of Homeland Security, Defense, State, Labor, Health and Human Services, among others, with an emphasis on the raised figure allocated for border security.
