US government reportedly resumes talks with Tehran

The US government has "quietly" resumed talks with Tehran to release the American prisoners imprisoned by that country and to limit its nuclear program, the Wall Street Journal said Wednesday, citing people familiar with the topic.

Iranians and US officials stated that the Biden administration had cleared $2.7 billion in payments by the Iraqi government for Iranian electricity and gas imports. The money, however, has been frozen due to the economic sanctions.

Talks between the two sides have been ongoing since December, and US officials have traveled to Oman at least three times for indirect meetings. The same report stresses that Tehran currently has enough 60% enriched uranium for at least two nuclear weapons.
