US housing starts up by 9.8% in February

Privately‐owned housing starts in the United States observed a monthly rise of 9.8% to come in at 1,450,000 in February, well above expectations, the country's Census Bureau said in its report published on Thursday. On an annual level, the figure sank by 18.4%.

Single‐family housing starts advanced by 1.1% month-on-month to hit 830,000. Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits stood at 1,524,000, increasing by 13.8% compared to January, but plunging by 17.9% year-on-year. Single‐family authorizations went up by 7.6% on a monthly level to reach 777,000.

Privately‐owned housing completions grew by 12.2% month-on-month and 12.8% year-on-year to 1,557,000. Single‐family housing completions saw a monthly increase of 1.0% to stand at 1,037,000.
