The United States Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) expanded on Wednesday its sanctions against individuals and companies linked with Iran's nuclear sector.
"The Iranian regime’s reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons remains a grave threat to the United States and a menace to regional stability and global security. Treasury will continue to leverage our tools and authorities to disrupt any attempt by Iran to advance its nuclear program and its broader destabilizing agenda,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said. The new sanctions target Iranian companies involved in the production of centrifuges and uranium enrichment.
Meanwhile, Iran has agreed to hold indirect talks with the US about its nuclear program while President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran would not seek to build nuclear weapons. At the same time, US President Donald Trump has not excluded the possibility of military action if an agreement is not reached.
