The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States dropped by 2,000 to 229,000 in the week ending June 18, the Department of Labor revealed in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average was up by 4,500 from the previous week's revised average to come in at 223,500.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending June 11 was 0.9%, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment landed at 1,315,000, increasing by 5,000 from the previous week's revised level. The 4-week moving average declined by 7,000 to reach 1,310,000, its lowest level since January 3, 1970.
