The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States declined by 5,000 to 180,000 in the week ending April 23, in line with market expectations, the Department of Labor stated in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average went up by 2,250 from the previous week's revised average to come in at 179,750.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending April 16 stood at 1%, the same level as the week before. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment decreased by 1,000 from the previous week's revised level to 1,408,000, the lowest level for insured unemployment since February 7, 1970.
The 4-week moving average fell by 24,500 from the previous week's revised average to 1,455,000, its lowest level since March 14, 1970.
