US initial jobless claims down by 9,000 to 215,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending April 12 decreased by 9,000 from the previous week's revised figure to 215,000, the Department of Labor said in a report on Thursday. The 4-week moving average was 220,750, a decrease of 2,500 from the previous week's revised average of 223,250.

The insured unemployment rate in the week ending April 5 stood at 1.2%, with the unemployment total at 1,885,000, up by 41,000 from the previous week's revised level. The 4-week moving average was 1,867,250, an increase of 1,000 from the previous week's revised average.
