The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States increased by 13,000 to 242,000 in the week ending June 8, the Department of Labor revealed in its report published on Thursday. The figure came in above analysts' forecasts and the highest since August 2023.
The four-week moving average climbed by 4,750 in comparison to the week before, coming in at 227,000. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending June 1, stood at 1.2%, unchanged compared to the week before, with the number for insured unemployment at 1,820,000, up by 30,000 from the previous week.
The 4-week moving average was 1,796,750, an increase of 8,500 from the previous week's revised average.
