US initial jobless claims up by 4,000 to 223,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending April 5 rose by 4,000 from the previous week's revised figure to 223,000, the Department of Labor said in a report on Thursday. The 4-week moving average was 223,000, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised average of 223,000.

The insured unemployment rate in the week ending March 29 stood at 1.2%, with the unemployment total at 1,850,000, down by 43,000 from the previous week's revised level. The 4-week moving average was 1,867,750, a decrease of 250 from the previous week's revised average.
