The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States increased by 6,000 to 223,000 in the week ending January 11, the Department of Labor revealed in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average rose by 750 from the previous week's unrevised average to 213,500.
The insured unemployment rate for the week ending January 11 was 1.2%, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment in those seven days stood at 1,899,000, growing by 46,000 from the previous week's revised level. The 4-week moving average went up by 500 to 1,865,750.
