The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States in the week ending August 2 rose by 7,000 compared to the previous seven-day period to 226,000, the Department of Labor said in its report published on Thursday. The figure came in higher than expected. The four-week moving average declined by 500 from the previous week's revised average to 220,750.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending July 26 was 1.3%, unchanged from the previous seven-day's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment increased by 38,000 to 1,974,000, the highest level for insured unemployment since November 6, 2021. The 4-week moving average grew by 5,000 to 1,951.
